It was the year 2008 when, during the Holy Mass, I heard Our Lord speak to me very clearly through these bible verses: When therefore they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter: Simon son of John, lovest thou me more than these? He saith to him: Yea, Lord, thou knowest that I love thee. He saith to him: Feed my lambs. He saith to him again: Simon, son of John, lovest thou me? He saith to him: Yea, Lord, thou knowest that I love thee. He saith to him: Feed my lambs. He said to him the third time: Simon, son of John, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved, because he had said to him the third time: Lovest thou me? And he said to him: Lord, thou knowest all things: thou knowest that I love thee. He said to him: Feed my sheep. (John 21:15-17)
To my astonishment, as this gospel was being read by the celebrant of Holy Mass, I heard Jesus say my name in place of “Simon, son of John.” Twice He asked me if I loved Him, and just like Peter, I responded, “Yes Lord, I love You.” Twice He responded, “Feed my lambs.” By the third time, I started crying and getting worried because I thought I must have offended Jesus greatly to have Him ask me a third time if I loved Him. Again, I responded just as Peter did, “Yes Lord, You know I love You.” Then He said to me, “Feed my sheep.”
On that day, unbeknownst to me, I was given my purpose in life. I have since spent many years trying to fulfill my purpose according to my own knowledge and understanding. If I had had a better experiential knowledge and relationship with God back then, I should have asked Him, “How do You want me to feed Your sheep?” Only recently I have come to the realization that my mission could have been so much more fruitful if I had spent more time developing an intimate relationship with Father God, Jesus, and Holy Spirit first, so that I could better discern God’s will in my life. This is my daily mantra from God’s Word: I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye. (Psalm 32:8)
For me, the instruction “Feed My Sheep” means feeding the spirit by evangelizing to others. It is my Kingdom mission to inspire the people around me to know, love, and serve our Heavenly Father, as well as to spread the Father’s infinite love for His children. Then there is also the nourishing of and caring for the physical body. I have found that when my body is weak, then my spirit is also weak, and then when my spirit is weak, then my body is also weak. I am often compelled to share my convictions of the famous quote attributed to Hippocrates: “Let food be thy medicine, and let medicine be thy food.” My hope is to inspire and encourage healing and wholeness of the mind, the body, and the spirit.
